Painting
I have been too busy to paint recently. This is usually the case during the summer months, and I'm at peace with the ebb and flow of the way things are. Nonetheless, the urge to see and appreciate all things is still there. And seeing marvelous things just makes me want to share them. So here are a few of the things, or beings, I've met recently.

Iguana Salsa with Sun

This one is called "Iguana Salsa with Sun". It is sold. Some of you might remember it as an illustration from my book, Gaia Smiles, which can be purchased through this site. It's also available locally in Friday Harbor, Washington, and at a few locations in Sacramento, California.

I have done several commissioned pieces in the past (murals as well as wall art). If there is a theme or idea that interests you, do not be afraid to email me. More information about purchasing...

She Talks to Hummingbirds
Acrylic on Canvas

The Healing Tree
Acrylic on Canvas

Kelpwoman
Acrylic on Canvas

She Talks to Hummingbirds captures a more everyday sort of magic, while The Healing Tree is a literal interpretation of the healing power I really do think trees (among other "things") are capable of. Truthfully, I don't think of trees as things at all, I think of them as well-rooted leafy people.

And I think of kelp as her own entity as well. (Kelp: the farmer's friend, and a danger to boat props everywhere. She is an edible underwater habitat for all kinds of life.) Kelp Woman is worthy of some serious respect. You cannot live near the sea without having a relationship with Kelp Woman.

Raven Sisters Come Home
Acrylic on Canvas, 27 x 39

Maple Sprite in Autumn
Acrylic on Canvas, 17 x 14

Stalking the Elusive Purple Elephant
Acrylic on Canvas, 27 x 39

The Raven Sisters Come Home to Roost is about how I imagine ravens might look when no one is watching. There comes a time and place in one's life when it is vital to shake off the feathers and pretense, and get down to doing what one came here for.

Fallen Stars/Maple Leaves is really about looking at a forest floor of maple leaves as fallen stars. And curled up asleep in the middle is the spirit of Autumn, herself a leaf, or is she a star?

Stalking the Elusive Purple Elephant depicts an elephant I often think about, who represents wisdom, tranquility and balance. There is a little bit of Ganesh in him, but also perhaps some Babar, he is whimsical in his inaccessibility.

Flying Above the Clouds
Acrylic on Canvas

Sky Dance
Acrylic on Canvas, 33 x 27

Some of the pieces in this show lean toward the more fantastic. Flying Above the Clouds is a visual literality, a description of that feeling of possibility and limitlessness.

The other dragon piece, Sky Dance, completely occurs in the realm of the Could, which is what fantasy is truly about. It is certainly possible, particularly when the sky is so often truncated by clouds, that dragons could be up there, just beyond sight....

Several of the other pieces are only peripherally part of the core show, and are certainly magical in their own ways:
